Cascade School of Music is proud to announce 11 year old Electric Bass student, Micah Slate, has been awarded the $500 Rising Star Scholarship Award for 2017 - 2018. Micah is a Bass student of John Allen and participates in CSM’s Rock University under the direction of Nathan Wegner.
The Rising Star Award recognizes students in years one and two of private instruction who exhibit talents, efforts and achievement. The students who receive this award have been nominated by their instructors as showing both great promise as musicians along with great perseverance and commitment to their craft.
During Crescendo Bendo Community Music Day held on June 2nd at the Tower Theatre, monthly Rising Star Award winners performed and a drawing was held for the $500 Rising Star Grand Prize Scholarship to continue his studies at Cascade School of Music. Micah performed “Name Dropping” by the Steve Morse band.
“Micah is has natural musical ability. This coupled with his dedication to practice is a winning combination. Micah sets the bar high for himself and achieves,” says John Allen. Nathan Wegner has this to say about Micah, “Micah astounds me. The drive and dedication to challenge himself on his instrument is inspiring. Anyone that thinks Rush is something that NEEDS to be covered has got my vote. I look forward to his continued development.”
