Cascade School of Music
is proud to announce 13 year old Piano student, Declan Hoban, has been awarded
the Rising Star Award for March, 2017.
Declan is a student Krista Aasland and the son of Gavin and Ingrid Hoban
The Rising Star Award recognizes students in years one and two of
private instruction who exhibit talent, effort and achievement. The students who receive this award have been
nominated by their teachers as showing both great promise as musicians along with
great perseverance and commitment to their craft.
Declan began studying
piano 10 months ago after hearing a friend play Fur Elise, and now plays the
song himself and with his grandmother on Facetime.
“Declan is an extremely bright and musically sensitive
young man. I’m continually blown away by his weekly progress," says
Aasland. "Declan practices so much
that he is learning multiple pieces each week.
With about nine months of piano instruction under his belt, Declan
walked into his lesson and said, ‘My grandma gave me the original Fur Elise,
and I’ve learned most of it!’"
Trish Allehoff, Interim Director says, “Declan
has a real desire to excel on piano. It is remarkable how far he has come in
such a short time.”
Along with an award certificate, Declan received a $50 scholarship
toward his private lessons and goody bags from award sponsors Just Joe’s Music,
Wabi Sabi and Cascade School of Music. Declan and subsequent monthly Rising
Star Award winners are the only students eligible to win the grand
prize $500 scholarship to continue their music studies at Cascade School of
Music during Crescendo Bendo to be held at the Tower Theatre on June 10, 2017.
